GoPro Hero 7 Black Review

GoPro Hero 7 Black Review

Hey folks,  today I am with GoPro Hero 7 Black and I’ve got some of my real-life experience with this camera. I am going to share some good and also some bad experiences of the new features of GoPro Hero 7 Black.

New Hyper Smooth Feature

GoPro with the new hyper smooth feature is taken their existing stabilization to the next level. You get gimbal-like footage, probably pushing it a little bit but trust me guys, it’s a lot better. So now if you are using your GoPro Hero 7 Black for mountain biking or for some bumpy trails at a very fast speed, you are going to get a much better experience, maybe not like a pro gimbal, but still much better.

Stabilize 4k at 60 fps

The new GoPro Hero 7 Black can stabilize your 4K footage at 60 Fps, before that it was limited to 4K and 30 Fps, which was still fine for most of us. But I think for an action camera you want some additional frame rates. In the new GoPro they have added an extra GB of RAM and its really helpful.

Three Stabilization Options

Now they came up with three stabilization options, which I think you would not be surprised, in terms of what they do. Let’s see how good it works behind the scene, it’s basically chose which is the best one for your footage. One of them is the new hyper smooth which works effectively well, and the other one is the existing electronic image stabilization, which they were using in the previous version of GoPro.

The hyper smooth mode does not support few resolution modes and some of the 4×3 modes and that’s why they continue with the existing electronic image stabilization mode. The third mode is basically the one when you don’t want to use any of the stabilization modes, It’s off.

New Time Warp Feature

In Hero 7 Black, GoPro has introduced a new feature called Time Warp, which is nothing but similar to Hyper-lapse. It’s basically stabilized your time-lapse footage and make it very smooth. In the previous versions of GoPro, they do have time-lapse footage recording option but for that you were required to keep your GoPro on a static position.

However, the new feature has solved that problem for many of us and now you can easily capture the time-lapse videos on the move, which is really helpful for may vloggers.

You can also adjust the photo interval with the help of the new Time Warp feature, there are few pre-time settings like 2/5/10/15 and 30 seconds to set the speed you want in time-lapse.

New User Interface of GoPro Hero 7 Black

GoPro Hero 7 Black came with an all-new user interface, the back screen is all different than before and I think it’s a lot better than what they had. It does not just look different but now it’s really very easy to use.

With the new interface, I think GoPro wants to help people, where they used to get lost in the navigation options and I think they have accomplished that. The new menu is really quite easy to use, the way they have simplified it.

Hero 7 Black has the three main options like Video, Photo, and time-lapse and you can still access all the modes within that, which I think is really great and a lot easier to use now.

New Portrait Mode

The new Portrait mode in GoPro Hero 7 Black is just awesome, especially if you shoot a video for Instagram and Snapchat. Hero 7 Black is now vertically oriented and you’ll see the menu in front and back are also gets vertically oriented. Now it is very easy to use and it shoots really fine now. It may or may not be useful for some, but I thought it’s a great addition.

New Timed Clips

I like this new feature in GoPro Hero 7 Black if you shoot short videos and don’t want to use more space in your memory card, this option enables you to record short clips for a set time frame, for example, if you want to record a clip for 30 seconds, you just have to set the time to 30 seconds and after that, it would get shut off by default.

Its, kind of force you to record the action in 30 seconds, but I found it is really very helpful because it helps to find the important clips easily when working in any software for editing.

New Super Photo Mode

This is something you are definitely going to like if you remember taking a photo while moving and getting that blur effect of the edge in the HDR mode of your camera, which was never pleasant.

GoPro has improved that and came with Super Photo Mode in Hero 7 Black. So basically it’s a combination of accelerometer data and your action while you are taking a photo. If you are doing something really very fast and moving the camera a lot, it’s using tone mapping instead of multi-frame blended options. They have really done a lot of works so that now you get a better photo.

Improved Audio

GoPro Hero 7 Black with improved audio is an added advantage for vloggers, you must be knowing Hero cameras never had that great audio quality. On many occasions I was not able to use the footage because of audio, especially when I used it with the primarily in a case and the audio was useless.

Now they have changes the membrane above the microphones and so far in my testing, I am not getting that weird wind tunnel distortion audio. I am using Hero 7 in some windy conditions, and it’s really fine now.

New Live Streaming

GoPro Hero 7 Black with a new live streaming feature enables you Livestream direct from your camera. I have used it on a few occasions on to get live on Facebook and it worked really well.

It is only available in 480p and 720p resolution, you just have to set it up in GoPro Mobile App and with the help of URL you can go live on Facebook or YouTube.

Once you get the stream name, you just have to connect on Wi-Fi or your phone data through the hotspot and it works well.

GoPro App

There is a significant improvement in the new GoPro App, I am not talking about the quick app but the main GoPro app. You can now overlay your telemetry metrics and things like speed and mapping are possible directly in the GoPro App, without using that on desktop/laptop computer, now you can directly put that right on your video.

After using it for a long time, now I would say it’s pretty nice and I don’t have any bad experience with the new GoPro Hero 7 Black. The photos are really very good and the improved audio quality impressed me a lot.

The video quality was solid, especially for mountain biking and to shoot fast-moving actions. Hero 7 Black is waterproof up to 10m and you don’t need a case for that, which was amazing. I have really enjoyed that during my Maldives trip.

That was my thought on the GoPro Hero 7 Black, Please share your questions and thoughts in the comment box section below.
